Space for Everyone

Exclosure believes that space is an environment that we can all use responsibly.

Like our environment here on Earth, the first step in environmental protection is monitoring. Our planned observatory network will help us ensure that environment is used safely, fairly, and responsibly by all space faring organizations.

To do that, we need your help!

Host an Observatory

Exclosure is actively recruiting excited citizen scientists to host the observatories that make up our Space Situational Awareness network.

In addition to helping surveil the near Earth environment, hosts will receive monetary compensation for helping keep tabs on satellites.

We are currently seeking two different types of potential host sites:

  • Individual Contributors - People who live at or have access to good imaging locations can host one of our observatories.

  • Institutional Supporters - These hosts (typically astronomy organizations) can receive privileged access to space data and tools that can help improve astronomical imaging. It is a central goal of the Exclosure to help ground based astronomers deal with the new imaging challenges of the satellite cluttered near Earth environment.

These observatories are small, low cost, and should require little intervention (~2x monthly) from hosts to run. Our initial selection process is competitive, but as the network expands we anticipate including hundreds of imaging sites. The ideal location is:

  • Low Light Pollution - Locations within cities are unlikely to be competitive in the selection process.

  • Big Open Sky - Locations with clear horizons are ideal. Fog/smog/haze tall trees or obstructed sight lines are challenging.

  • Power and WiFi - The observatories need a small amount of power (~15W), and a trickle internet connectivity. There are many possible configurations of this, and we are willing to work with sites as needed.

Do you have a location that meets these needs or know someone that does?
